Prepare a SmartThings device connection. Check your device generation, platform requirements, network and firmware before you start.
Before you begin
- Exact hub generation
- Matched endpoint protocol
- Regional radio match
Confirm the latest app screens with the manufacturer. Menu labels can change. Do not enter a Matter QR or setup code on this site.
Pairing steps
- Select native Matter, Zigbee or Z-Wave before onboarding.
- For Z-Wave, reject a hub without a Z-Wave radio for that direct path.
- For Matter-over-Thread, confirm an appropriate TBR.
- Use SmartThings device registration for the chosen protocol.
- Validate both commands and automation triggers.

Confirm it worked
- Expected state and permitted actions are exposed
Test the particular function you need. A device appearing in the app does not prove that advanced features, automations or remote control are available.
If pairing fails
- A device may have another cloud or bridge route even when a particular direct radio path is impossible.
