How to choose a Matter hub for Thread

Start with the connection path

First choose the platform you actually use. Then check that the exact hub generation is listed as a Matter controller and Thread border router. A controller that supports Wi-Fi Matter can still lack a Thread radio. Apple’s third-generation Apple TV 4K Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Ethernet models illustrate why generation alone is not enough.

Compare the important conditions

Compare a HomePod mini or a verified Apple TV variant for Apple Home, a Google or Alexa model only after checking the current controller inventory, and a multi-radio hub when you also need native Zigbee or Z-Wave. Buying a second border router does not guarantee a vendor bridge will export every feature.
