A Wi-Fi router is not automatically a Matter controller or Thread border router. Confirm the exact generation and enabled role.

Check whether the router actually performs a Matter controller or Thread border-router role. Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity alone describe the home network, not the platform software needed to commission a Matter accessory.

Checks that change the answer

1. Confirm the exact hardware revision and firmware.
2. Check whether Matter-controller software is actually supported.
3. A separate Thread border router may still be required for Thread accessories.
